  • Taking Notes on a Laptop

Do you think we learn better when we take notes on the laptop or do it the traditional way, with pen and paper? Any research on that?

I do see some of my students who take notes on the laptop occasionally lose their concentration in class. Whether they were typing fast and caught up with everything i have to say in the lecture or they are really not taking notes and working on other things on the laptop, that i do not know.

I tend to agree that paper and pen will be better in class simply because writing is good for memory purposes. But it is also a good idea to type up your written notes for organization sake after the class to help study for an exam so your notes won't be everywhere on a piece of notebook paper.

I do believe in some colleges, the professors actually ban students from using laptop to take notes. Simply because most colleges have wifi these days and the professors think it is too much temptation for students to be surfing the net during class then listening in to their lectures.

I just want to make a suggestion to all. The Apple Macbook is awesome to take to class to take notes. It's very practical.
