The first year is always good idea to try to meet more friends and join study groups. So i would suggest to stay on campus and stay in a dorm. Once you've established your circle of friends and studying partners, you can always stay off campus and rent an apartment.

Another alternative would be private dorm. Usually these will be on campus or in very close proximity of the campus. They are more expensive compared to the traditional dormitory offered by the university, but you get the dorm-style of life, get to meet new people and friends, but maybe a bigger room or suite.

Living in a dorm on campus is nice. you meet some of your best friends in college. When you encountered people you dislike or just gets on your nerves (which happens ALL THE TIME), just take that as a life experience. Learn from all the drama that these people might bring you and you'll be surprised you will grow into a much mature person and that's what college is supposed to help you do. GROW UP!

I agree. Start off living on campus for 2 years, meet friends and then move out to apartment and it will be a great learning experience for you because you will have to learn to share and be considerate.
