  • Pray at college graduation ceremonies?

It has been a controversial issue to offer a prayer at commencement ceremonies in public schools.

For the University of Maryland at College Park, the University Senate has recently voted to eliminate the invocation prayers at the school's commencement ceremony this year. However, the University even allowed the screening of hard-core pornography although it was initially canceled after state legislators threatened to cut school funding.

Did the University of Maryland make the right decision? Share your thoughts.

I think people can pray in private. I am not sure if it is appropriate at college graduation ceremonies because there are people who have different beliefs may feel being discriminated.

As for "hard-core pornography" movie to be shown on campus, it is certainly inappropriate unless it is for academic / research purpose.

Well, prayer at graduation ceremonies or praying in schools in general has been controversial, but if the college or university is a privately funded schools, then i think the schools have the option to allow praying or not. I've worked in a private college before where they have certainly allow praying in graduation ceremonies, etc.
