It depends on your company policy. Most companies do it this way. The longer you are with the company, the more weeks of unemployment you received. As far as unemployment is concern, you generally get 6 months of it with proof of attempting to find a job.

State unemployment kicks in when your severance is finished and you get a percentage of what you were making and depending on which state you reside in, the duration of that aid may be longer or shorter.
